Magical Mountain View Resort
Located in the center of “Rainforest Mountain”, the largest and one of the most important parts of the rainforest in South Thailand.
It has a total area of 463,131.43 rai or 741 sq.km. with a high level of biodiversity. There are many types of plants, both rare and common, such as Rafflesia Kerrii, White Backed Palm and Maxburretia Furtadoana. It is also a habitat for a wide variety of wildlife. In particular, four species of protected wildlife can be found, namely, The Fea’s Muntjac, Serows, Tapir and Marbled Cat.
All of this along with the beautiful scenery of natural wonders including waterfalls, cliffs, caves, and limestone mountain views that tower over the water at Ratchaprapa Dam have led to it being nicknamed the “Guilin of Thailand”.
Khao Sok National Park is a nature reserve in southern Thailand containing dense virgin jungle, towerlike limestone karst formations and the man-made Cheow Lan Lake. It’s home to rare species such as the giant parasitic Rafflesia flower, hornbill birds, gibbons and tigers. The park can be explored by elephant-back safari, hiking trail, raft, canoe or kayak via the Sok river.
Being the most popular mainland national park destination in South Thailand, Khao Sok is a rainforest with a great diversity of plants and wildlife. It is one of the few national parks in the country easily accessible by public transportation. The nearest towns are Surat Thani, Krabi, Ao Nang (Railay Beach), Phuket, Khao Lak and Koh Samui.
The main attractions of the park are Cheow Lan Lake, iconic limestone hills, waterfalls, raft houses spread over the lake, trails, caves and rivers.
Khao Sok was established as Thailand’s 22nd national park in 1980 by The Royal Forest Department. It covers 741 km² land area of Amphoe Phanom District and Ban Takhun District in Surat Thani province and includes the Cheow Lan Reservoir dammed by the Ratchaprapha Dam.
